Bill Maher interviews some of religion's oddest adherents. Muslims, Jews and Christians of many kinds pass before his jaundiced eye. Maher goes to a Creationist Museum in Kentucky, which shows that dinosaurs and people lived at the same time 5000 years ago. He talks to truckers at a Truckers' Chapel. ( Sign outside: "Jesus love you." ) He goes to a theme park called Holy Land in Florida. He speaks to a rabbi in league with Holocaust deniers. He talks to a Muslim musician who preaches hatred of Jews. Maher finds the unlikeliest of believers and, in a certain Vatican priest, he even finds an unlikely skeptic.

ACE VENTURA

One of 7th Level's most obscure releases before fading into obscurity, Ace Ventura is a decent cartoon adventure starring the wacky cartoon series of the same name which was popularized by a Jim Carrey movie. Despite featuring some hilarious voice acting and excellent animation, Ace Ventura is ultimately little more than an average adventure game that's disappointingly short and easy. GameSpot has the lowdown on this one:

"Dude, pull my finger. Did that make you laugh? Then you're probably going to like Ace Ventura. Borrowing from the Ace Ventura cartoon series, the game features all the same gags, mannerisms, and obnoxiousness from the world's famous pet detective - the kind of stuff that's so stupid, you have no choice but to laugh. And it's the humor that keeps the game afloat.

The gameplay you've seen a dozen times before. Once again, Ace is on the case, this time traveling the earth looking for a lost creature. Masters of click-and-solve games will be able to finish the entire game in no time flat. In fact, a lot of it is so simple, you'll figure out that the game is partly designed for young children. The objects and scenes have that bright, bulky Fisher Price quality. And if you ever actually get stuck, a special button on Ace's watch delivers audio clues that take out most of the guesswork. There's even a setting that lets parents edit out some of Ace's choice phrases, although even without the parent setting on, Ace's language barely goes beyond third-grade bathroom humor. The various puzzle-filled scenes are sporadically broken up by arcade-lite action. Slightly challenging tasks like swimming through the murky waters of the deep, avoiding trash and oil slicks, and getting in a basic laser fight are a nice way to mix things up.

Although Ace Ventura doesn't claim to break new ground, it possesses one nice feature that all developers of endlessly-clicking adventure games should take note of. When you click on an object that you don't need, Ace pipes up with such witty things as "Yeaaaahhhh righht!" and "not enough upper body strength." That alone saves hours out of wandering around, which is usually nothing more than absolutely frustrating. All told, it's Ace's lowbrow humor that makes this a fun game to play. As in a lot of adventure games, long, drawn-out stories are told in between each level. But refreshingly, the scenes are actually entertaining - a good thing, since there's no way to skip them. You'll likely cruise through this title with ease, but you'll have plenty of fun getting there." The humor, albeit sophomoric in some places, and hilarious animations make the game well worth the huge download, although expert adventure gamers will find the game disappointingly easy.

BFF (Best Friends Forever) (2009)

Running mainly on the much hyped first — and, who knows, maybe only — cinematic tandem of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Comedy Queen Ai-Ai de las Alas, “BFF” (subtitled “Best Friends Forever” as if fearing its target audience wouldn’t know what the heck the tri-lettered acronym stands for) affords no glint of optimism to what could be a barrage of films created less for their narratives than a chance to pit two local film legends and/or tabloid fodder with one another. Essentially a female counterpart of the Dolphy-Vic Sotto-starred “Dobol Trobol”, Wenn Deramas’ put-down to slapstick cinema has not, save for a few chuckle-inducing skits, a single hilarious moment, though more frustratingly glaring is its corny comedic scenes punctuating every overly manipulative tearjerker with the imprecise rhythm of a trying-hard drummer.
A coincidence-laden plot sees Honey (Cuneta) as a wife to Tim (John Estrada) and a mother to three kids, but getting so dedicated to her latter role leads to neglect both to her weight and her husband’s emotional needs, a chance seen by Tim to fool around with the comparatively slimmer and radiant but otherwise none-too-lovable Frances (de las Alas), a single mother trying to raise her daughter who’s getting a little too chummy with her for comfort. Compounding an operatic plot is that Frances is actually Honey’s dance instructor whom she met at a gym and have regular chat sessions with, resulting to their blossoming (best-)friendship.

Metastaze (2009)

This is a movie about 4 guys without job, future or any kind of perspective. They spend their time on drinking, fighting, fanatically cheering for their local soccer club, lift shopping, stealing, drug smuggling, etc. So this movie shows how modern Croatian life becomes a copy of Western European countries. I like to say: That’s what we fought for! For not having a jobs, not having any security, not having a lot of things that generation before us has had. Well, I don’t want to sound nostalgic, but this movie shows to those who remember that we could do better (characters in the movie are too young to remember), much better. Now about movie itself.

Using her superhman strength and her sword, she begins to rid the base of its evil infestation in a series of spectacular and elaborate showdowns. However, it is not until she forms her first human friendship in centuries with the young daughter of the base’s general that Saya learns of her greatest power over Onigen may well be her ability for human connection…
